Tips

It is very important to support both sides evenly and apply pressure to the point where both River Quiver Extrusions join so there is no chance of pull from the weight of the extrusions. With a small number of threads on the integrated coupler nuts, the bolts can cross-thread if not properly supported or if the coupler is misaligned. It is also important to avoid any gaps between the extrusions, as this can create a catch point and potentially lead to rod damage.

Do not assemble in direct sunlight on hot days.

Heat causes the liner to expand and throw off your fit. Assemble in the shade, or bring the unit inside for a few minutes first.

Heat Expansion

Why the Liner Sometimes Sticks Out

Your River Quiver is built from two materials that react differently to temperature: the black outer tube (aluminum) and the blue inner liner tubes (plastic, the part your rod slides through). When it's warm out, especially if the unit has been sitting in direct sun, the plastic liner expands faster than the aluminum around it. That pushes the liner tubes out past the end of the extrusion, so they look longer than they should be, or make it hard to get a flush, gap-free fit at the coupler.

This is normal. It is not a defect, and it does not mean your liner is the wrong size.

What to do:

  1. Move the unit out of direct sunlight, into shade or indoors, for 10 to 15 minutes.
  2. Let it sit undisturbed. The liner will contract back down as it cools.
  3. Try the coupler fit again once it's cooled. It should now sit flush with no gap.

What not to do:

Do not sand, trim, or file the liner tubes to force a flush fit while the unit is still warm. If you remove material while the liner is expanded, it will be undersized once it cools back down, creating a permanent gap that a flush fit can no longer fix on its own.

A quick way to tell the difference: if the liner tubes stick out past the end of the extrusion, that's heat expansion, let it cool and it'll seat flush again. If the two halves won't sit flush even after cooling, with a persistent gap at the coupler no matter the temperature, contact us at info@riversmith.com, we can help.
