I bought this bag for my trip to South America

I bought this Riversmith travel bag for a trip to South America and overall it performed very well. I packed two 8-wt rods, one 9-wt, and one 10-wt, which was a tight fit mainly due to the fighting butt length, but everything fit securely. In the other compartments I carried a GoPro, four reels, leaders, lightweight pants, a shirt, flip-flops, a Skwala rain jacket, a laptop, and all associated chargers and a battery backup.

I had no issues getting through the airport or bringing it on the plane, which was a big plus. The only reason I’m giving this bag four stars instead of five is an issue with the left shoulder strap. It continually slipped at the bottom, causing the pack to sit lopsided while carrying it. I initially thought the issue was due to the weight, so I offloaded some gear into my suitcase on the return trip, but the problem actually seemed to worsen as the day went on. I’m not sure how to fix it other than tying a knot to prevent the strap from slipping.

So far everything looks great about it, the storage compartments looks plenty big enough to store some of your personal belongings in it or around the sides. I do love the color it came in, I have not tested it out in the field just yet, probably in the next 3-4 months or the near future, hopefully by this summer, can not wait to use it.

Great bag, well constructed

Great travel bag. Haven’t used it for travel yet but seems like a solid option for any trip. I can easy pack away my 9 foot 5 weight but unfortunately too small for my Spey rod. Love the pocket options, plenty of them to choose from. Overall, a worthy investment.

Perfect for the destination trip

This pack is absolutely perfect for the destination trip. I just used it on a pike trip up to Canada. Fit two 9WTs, reel and 3 additional spools, big streamer fly box, gopro and accessories, rocky talkies, and a bunch of other gear with room to spare. Side pockets were perfect for other travel items; passport, headphones, wallet, phone, snacks. Would buy this again!

The pack won't fit under a seat but fits with ease in the overhead bin. I didn't have any issues with the gate agents bringing it on a United flight. It does take up a good bit of room (it only fits sideways) so if you board towards the end, it might be challenging to find a space for it.
